Consumer Reports has published a great guide on this. See https://www.consumerreports.org/privacy/how-to-turn-off-smart-tv-snooping-features/. It was recently updated in December of 2019. We appreciate them posting this and it not being behind a paywall. Kudos Consumer Reports!
But I need to add the following: Consumers and businesses really need to isolate their internet connected TVs (and other IoT type devices) on separate LAN/VLAN segments. These need to be firewalled from all other network segments and only allowed to talk to the internet. See my post on Network Segmentation. The reason is that the smart devices often scan the network under the dubious guise of finding playable media or giving users “a better experience” or some other rubbish. Don’t let them! Isolate them to their own segment.
